2012-13 GLVC Men's Basketball Awards

Romeoville, Ill. -
For the second-straight year, the Lewis men's basketball team had three players recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference for postseason honors, as sophomore guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) was named First Team All-GLVC, senior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) was named Second Team All-GLVC and sophomore forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) was a unanimous selection to the GLVC All-Defensive Team.

"All indidividual awards come as a result of team success," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We have been playing outstanding basketball over the past six weeks and these three individuals have certainly played a big part in that."

Jackson, the 2012 GLVC Freshman of the Year, leads the Flyers and is fifth in the conference in scoring (16.4 ppg.). He is always a threat to go to the free throw line, as he has made 82.9% (126-for-152) of his attempts. He is second on the squad in three-point field goal percentage (36.5%), rebounds (4.2 rpg.), assists (2.0 apg.) and steals (1.5 spg.).

"Ryan has had an outstanding season," Trost said of Jackson. "Ryan has emerged as a go-to player for us, but maybe more importantly, he is a leader not only by his words but by his actions.

"I've often said, Ryan can be one of the best players in not only the GLVC, but the country before his career is done."

Bryant is averaging a career-best 12.8 points-per-game and is shooting 46.2% (61-for-132) from three-point range. His 61 trifectas are a career-high. He is also deadly from the charity stripe, as he has knocked down 89.4% (59-for-66) of his free throws this season.

"I am so happy for David to finish off his career with this honor," Trost said. "He truly exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete.

"He has made big shot after big shot for this team and is one of the best shooters that I have had the privilege to coach."

Lewis is often paired up defensively against the other team's top player and makes life difficult for him. Lewis leads the Flyers with 6.4 rebounds-per-game and has grabbed a team-best 116 defensive caroms as well.

"This is a well deserved award for Julian because he is a consumate team player," Trost said. "A lot of what Julian does goes unnoticed to the general fan, but certainly not by our coaching staff.

"We certainly wouldn't be where we are at without the play of Julian (Lewis)."

Lewis heads to Evansville, Indiana on Thursday (March 7) for an 8:30 PM showdown with third-seeded Southern Indiana in the 2013 Deaconess GLVC Men's Basketball Quarterfinals.
