Freshman Greg Petty
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University freshman outside hitter Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Dowers Grove North) has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Petty helped No. 7 Lewis men's volleyball to a 3-1 victory over then No. 6 Penn State on Saturday.

Petty recorded 14 kills with a .522 attack percentage against the Nittany Lions.  He also added three digs and three blocks to his totals.

The victory over Penn State was the Flyers' first since Dan Friend took over as head coach in 2005. It is the 11th time a Lewis men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, and the first since May 3, 2004 when Jeff Soler took home the honor.

“It's awesome that Greg and the team are recognized for a great win at home and a fantastic start to the season,” Friend said. “Greg had a remarkable first career home match and it's exciting because you know he is only going to improve. We look forward to this fueling us to get better and gain confidence each day.”

Lewis is 4-2 on the season, with wins over ranked squads Hawai'i, Pepperdine and Penn State. The Flyers host St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday at 7 p.m. and George Mason on Saturday at 7 p.m.
