TAMPA, Fla. – Following their first setback of the season on Friday evening, No. 15 Lewis women's volleyball bounced back on Saturday afternoon with a 25-14, 25-21, 28-26 sweep of in-region foe Tiffin.

Lewis pulled away in the first set with an 8-0 run. Freshman Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) had two kills in the stretch. Tiffin held a 19-18 advantage in the second frame when Lewis scored five straight points. Freshman Katie Fuerst (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) started the run with two kills.

The third set looked like another easy one for the Flyers until Tiffin went on a late 7-0 run to grab a 21-20 advantage. Junior Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) stopped the run with a kill and then delivered a kill from the back row for point 22. Lewis would win the match 28-26 when a Tiffin attack went long.

“Everybody had quality touches and we calmed some nerves which hopefully will help some of the younger players as we head into conference play,” head coach Lorelee Smith said. “Plus it's nice to get a regional win in our corner as we head home.”

Lewis had 12 players record a kill. Mitros led Lewis with nine. Vertin added five kills on nine swings with no errors.

“Kim played two different positions today and did well,” Smith said. “She played smart and got things going.”

The Flyers out-hit the Dragons .281 to .081.

Tiffin falls to 0-4 while Flyers are now 3-1. The Flyers host Southern Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. The contest is the home and Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for the Flyers. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
